Hailsham Shop Windows - space for artists.
There will be a changeover of artists displaying work in the empty shop windows in Hailsham High Street on 29th January.
If you would like to show work for approximately 8 weeks in a shop window exhibtion, please do get in touch. You would need to provide your own stands / easels, display your own work, insure your work for the exhibtion duration (29th January to 24th March), and collect your work when asked - if the shops are let during the exhibition time, you will be asked to remove your work, possibly at short notice.
This is part of the Hailsham Town Council's initiative for High Street Revitalisation in conjunction with the empty shop owners and the letting agents (Ross and Co). You may be asked to help clean up the interior of the shop when placing your work, if it has not already been done. You will be responsible for keeping the windows cleaned.
This is not a commercial venture - it is an opportunity to show your work and help the appearance of the High Street. Pictures in the windows must not have any prices on them - you can put your own contact details in the window if you wish or Gallery North will kindly handle all enquiries about your work (for a small donation) so you will need to provide a list of the work with prices and either a 'map' of the window or photos of the work for the gallery stewards. There will be no commission on any sales but pictures will have to remain in the windows once sold until the end of the exhibition.
If interested please email asap or call Josie at Hailsham Creative on 01323 840 048 or leave a message for Jenny at Gallery North (70 High St, Hailsham) on 01323 846 938.

Art Evenings start this week
The first Art Group session of 2012 is on Thursday 5th January, 7-9pm at Arlington Village Hall. All are welcome - if you got some art materials for Christmas and need some inspiration to get you started, pop along! Informal and untutored, £2.50 to include a drink, bring your own materials.
Each week we have a suggested theme - this week it is 'Shiny and New' - which you can ignore if you like and do your own thing. We have magazines and books for inspiration and everyone is happy to share their own tips and suggestions. A small group, our numbers vary from 10 to 20 ish each week and we have members who work in watercolours, acrylics, pastels, mixed media, oils, pencils, print so there is always plenty of inspiration!
There is an annual membership fee if you would like to come on a regular basis (due in February, amount TBA but around the £10 mark so not extortionate!) which entitles you to a discount on our exhibition entry fees and on materials form the SAA, plus you are covered by the SAA PL Insurance at group events.

December looms
We are nearly into December and that busy social calendar so there is only one more Art Session at Arlington Village Hall before the New Year. This Thursday, 1st Dec, the suggested theme is A Study in Scarlet - make of it what you will. The inspiration for the theme is (from Wikepedia)
A Study in Scarlet is a detective mystery novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, introducing his new character of Sherlock Holmes, who later became one of the most famous literary detective characters. He wrote the story in 1886, and it was published [on 1st Dec] the next year. The book's title derives from a speech given by Holmes to his sidekick Doctor Watson on the nature of his work, in which he describes the story's murder investigation as his "study in scarlet": "There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it."
The following week, on 8th December, we will have our Christmas Open Evening open to all visitors, with live music, festive nibbles and drinks. Free entry. Regular attending artists will put a selection of their work on show and some of it may even be for sale. Please do pop in any time between 7 and 9pm. Jim Tipler will play guitar and Lawrie Skinner will play accordion - there may be a hint of a festive theme to the music...
