Season's greetings!

The Christmas season is upon us so we will be having an open evening on Thursday 17th Dec in the hall with drinks and nibbles. You can do some painting if you like or just have a nice sociable evening, members are welcome to bring along examples of their work to display (and sell if you like!). Open to all, free, please do invite friends, bring your own alcoholic drinks or we are providing soft drinks. If you would like to bring some food to share, please get in touch with Hazel to find out what is needed. 7 til 9pm.

There is a slight change to our dates for January: Jan 7, (not 14), 21, 28. William de Wilde will be returning on 28th Jan to do either a demonstration or a workshop, details to follow.

It would be helpful to know if you prefer to have workshops or demonstrations with visiting artists - have there been any that you have particularly enjoyed? Do you have any suggestions? Please let Camilla know.

Dear Josie,
PLEASE CAN YOU HELP??
My requests for help with the group's Annual art Show have returned just one offer of assistance - I do hate to nag but this event can not possibly be a success without some hard work.
It was a group decision to hold the event once again so, even if you do not wish (or are unable) to exhibit, please do spare an hour or so in advance to help with publicity and over the weekend to help with setting up, stewarding, selling tombola tickets, running refreshments or just welcoming visitors to the show. Help with setting up the marquee on Friday 24th July would also be greatly appreciated.
In addition to being a good event for the group, this is a fund raiser for MS Society(Multiple Sclerosis research and support)

TOMBOLA PRIZES ARE ALSO NEEDED to help the group cover costs.

PLEASE do email or call me (01323 485153) URGENTLY to let me know what you can do to hep and when.

Thank YOU in advance for your help in making this a successful event:)
And finally, as a member of the Arlington Arts group you would be very welcome to join us at a FREE fun event this coming Sunday, 26th July in the marquee next to Arlington Village Hall. There will be tractor rides, games, live music, a treasure hunt, storytelling, a have-a-go art table and more.  Songs of Praise at 11am, bring your own picnic from 12 noon and enjoy the free entertainment.

Have a lovely summer, everyone.
Josie

DEMELZA Heffle Cuckoo Fair

A big 'thank you' to everyone who took part in our group show at this event in April - it was a lovely event, the art show was a great success and we helped to add £98 to the funds raised on the day, which totalled about £4700!
One problem we raised was the lack of disabled parking - this is due to the road being closed to all traffic from 10am. It has been suggested that for future events, disabled parking will be allowed on the road just outside the hall entrance.
We have been invited to participate again on 16th April 2016. Please see a copy of the letter from Pam, who co-ordinated the art show with us, on the AAG website (below)

We've registered!!

Our Layflat art pad is on its way so get ready to make your mark!

Following the overwhelming response to the SAA's latest Layflat Challenge, which has seen requests go through the roof, we have decided to give another 50 lucky art clubs the chance to receive one of these unique Frisk Layflat Sketch Pads absolutely FREE.

The success of the first Layflat Sketch Pad Challenge, which kicked into action earlier this year, saw 45 clubs submit almost 700 stunning paintings. We decided that we simply had to run another one so that even more clubs could experience how this challenge inspires and rewards all who take part.

If you're part of an art club and fancy taking part then please get in touch and request one of the 50 extra pads we have to give away. Please note pads are provided on a first come first served basis and will only be provided to those clubs yet to take part in the challenge.

The challenge involves the lucky clubs each filling a book with paintings, asking one member to complete a spread before passing it on to the next member. It really is a challenge that brings everyone together and shares the joy of painting.

"Our members have enjoyed contributing to the sketchpad and are very interested to see what we have managed to produce between us." Bennachie Art & Crafts Appreciation Society

From the moment we opened the cover of the first pad we received, we were overwhelmed with the work that was submitted and by how much effort everyone had put in...not to mention the fun that everyone had whilst taking part!

"The challenge was great fun and we do hope that this may be repeated next year"Swansea Artists Circle 2010

Layflat Gallery
If you would like to see all the amazing entries from the first Layflat Challenge you can view the interactive gallery using the link below.
SAA - View the last Layflat Challenge Gallery Online

So what's so special about these pads?
The working space available in a conventional sketch book or pad is determined by the size of the individual page, the central spine or binding making it nigh-on impossible to create spontaneous, free flowing sketches across the width of your open sketch book.
Now with it's unique lay-flat design, an A4 Layflat Sketch Pad offers you the choice to double your working space to A3! Each of these stylish pads feature 20 x 300gsm pages of quality cartridge paper, cleverly bonded so they're suitable for use with almost all popular mediums.
"It's a marvellous pad and so versatile" Rathmore Art Group

Club together and WIN up to £220

worth of prizes!

With this unique challenge, it really is the taking part that counts - however we have made prizes available for the top three art clubs and 10 individual artists to add a little extra fun.

First prize
will win £100 worth of art materials, plus 10 tickets to ‘All about Art’ - the UK’s largest hands on art event taking place at the Business Design Centre on the 23-25th July 2015.

Second prize
will receive £50 worth of art materials plus 10 tickets to
‘All about Art’.

Third prize
will receive £25 worth of art materials plus 10 tickets to ‘All about Art’.

We will also select 10 of our favourite pictures from all those submitted and send the artists behind those winning artworks their own individual Layflat Sketch Pad with two complimentary tickets to ‘All about Art’

How will it work?
The first 50 art clubs to register will each receive a FREE A4 Layflat Sketch Pad, and all we want you to do is fill it for us! Each club member who takes part will have a layflat page on which to paint or draw whatever they fancy. There are no rules about how you do this: you could get the ball rolling on the first page, or jump to the centre pages to make your mark. Then when you’ve completed your masterpiece, add your name and contact details and pass the layflat on to the next person in your club. When all pages are filled, pop it back in the post to us using the freepost envelope provided.
This isn’t a competition that can be rushed – with up to 20 club members taking part we appreciate that filling the sketch pad could take some time - but we hope you will enjoy the process and be inspired by the paintings that your fellow members create!

Invitation

An exhibition linked to the local ‘Jack in the Green’ Festival.

Over the last few decades, green has become an ideological and political colour as never before.
At other times in history it has been associated with a host of contradictory ideas, which range from evil superstition and bad luck to love rebirth and health. It has been a courtly colour, a romantic colour, a dangerous colour, and a symbol of fecundity.
For their forthcoming exhibition ‘The Language of Green’, SoCo artists have been challenged to make a personal response to this colour through their own practice as painters, printmakers, sculptors, mixed media and textile artists.
The Language of Green’ at The Crypt Gallery, St Mary in the Castle
7 Pelham Crescent, Hastings TN34 3AF:  entrance at street level
Thursday 23 April to Tuesday 5 May 2015.
Open 11 00am - 5 00pm daily (Closed Monday 27 April.)

SoCo Artists is an evolving group of professional artists, based in East Sussex. They present a regular programme of exhibitions, public arts events and talks in an eclectic range of venues, taking their work to a wide and varied audience.  Find out more about SoCo Artists:http://www.soco.org.uk/

Chistophe came to the UK to improve his English language skills for his job and was introduced to the Art group through his English host.It is a while since we have had French visitors - our last visit from representatives from our twinned parish, Ponches Estruval in Picardy, was in 2011 when we were treated to a fabulous classical concert in the church and our last visit to them was in 2013 when 2 of us exhibited work in their church and the Cajun Dawgs provided music for their festival meal. The link between Arlington and Ponches Estruval is a cultural exchange forged between the 2 church parishes with the help of Interreg funding in 2008.  It would be a great shame to lose this link so I would welcome suggestions of how we can include a French cultural exchange into this year's village events.
