Jackie Hurwood will be coming along to give a short demonstration then a workshop in watercolours. The subject will be simple reflections,  birds on water (ducks, swans, geese  etc.) so bring along your own reference material, watercolours, paper and brushes. £2.50 members, £5 visitors. September 22nd.,7pm. We will also have a collection in aid of Myeloma Uk in memory of our secretary, Anne Howard so please bring along some change / notes.


6TH OCTOBER
We need a few volunteers to help with various aspects of running the group so please come along to our next committee meeting at the hall at 6.30pm before our regular session on 6th October.

Apologies, I gave the wrong date for our demo/workshop in September. Jackie Hurwood will be coming on 22nd September to do a brief demo in watercolour then we shall have a go ourselves.

It was decided at the meeting on 31st Aug that we will aim to have more tutor visits - hoping to have a demonstration one week followed by a workshop the following week Fees will be £2.50 for members for each session, £5 for visitors. Full minutes of the meeting, taken by Julia Hawker our new Minutes Secretary, should be available next week.

In future, there will be just 2 newsletters a year emailed or printed, which will have 6 months programme of events. The website will not be updated until we have a new volunteer to do so.

September news

September Regular Art Sessions, Thursdays 7pm -9pm Arlington Village Hall except for the Third Thursday when we do not meet at the hall - the group can discuss other options for getting together on the Third Thursday. NB: Meeting on Wednesday 31st August, 6.30pm at Pickhams in Wilmington. All AAG members welcome. The agenda will include the election of a new Chair and Secretary. We also need a volunteer to keep members informed of session dates. RSVP for directions. September art sessions at the village hall: regular sessions each week except for the Third Thursday when there are several events happening for the Hailsham Arts Festival which might be of interest, including a fund raising event for Demelza. On the FOURTH THURSDAY last Thursday of September we shall have a demonstration /workshop.   Bluebell Barn Art As part of the annual Art Trail (sponsored by Hart Reade) for Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture, a group of artists and makers will be showing work in the Bluebell Barn at Bates Green in Arlington. As an added attraction, the woodlands, famous for the annual Bluebell Walk but beautiful at any time of year, will be open for visitors. Featuring a variety of work by Clive Hale, Andy Hill, Ian Dowding, Andrew Cottingham, Matilda Coleman, Corina Stupu Thomas, Jill Church, Val Hale, Carol Kemp, Robert Williams, Liz Cottingham, Josie Tipler. Open 10.30 - 4.30, entry into the Art Show is free but donations in aid of Myeloma UK are encouraged in memory of the artist, Anne Howard whose hard work made the Art Trail possible. Message from the Chair

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to those that took part in the Arlington Art Show last weekend and those that came along and helped. We were a select few but I had many compliments about the quality and high standard of work on show. Sales were good, over £400, and with well over 200 visitors we were kept busy with the tombola, selling raffle tickets and Jill did a great job with refreshments. It looks like we raised over £200 for the MS Society which will be added to the sum raised at the Arlington Gets Cajun event, at present £1500!

As usual, a few people do a lot of work so it is important to try to publicise the Art Group and encourage more people to get involved. Spread the word!

Now, we have a committee meeting on 31st August to which ALL members are invited. There are 2 officer roles up for grabs: Secretary and Chair. Both are roles that can be very simple but are necessary under our group constitution.
I suggest we try to lighten the load and attempt a rota of duties to share amongst members, maybe on a monthly basis, such as sending out information and publicising meetings, checking hall hire, arranging weekly subjects, collating Third Thursday suggestions, unlocking/locking the hall, arranging monthly competitions and Artist of the Month, setting up refreshments.
We can also discuss options for the continued financial viability of the group such as making 'term times' and paying up front for blocks of sessions.
The meeting is at 6.30 at Pickhams, RSVP.

July 7 - Regular Art Session July 9th - Marquee raising in the Village Hall Field - help needed from midday please. July 14 - NB Outdoor painting - venue TBA at previous art session July 15 - Setting up Art Show at Arlington Village Hall - help needed from 5.30pm at Bates Green Farm to collect the screens and from 6pm at the hall.Please reassure me I won't be on my own and let me know if / when you can help! July 16 - Art Show at Arlington Village Hall and Arlington Gets Cajun July 17 - Art Show at Arlington Village Hall & Arlington weekend July 21 - Third Thursday. Outdoor painting - venue TBA at previous art session July 28 - Tracey King  Demonstration and workshops.  (Bring watercolours, clingfilm, old toothbrushes, fine pens) Aug: 4, 11, 25 - Regular Art Sessions; Aug 18th is Third Thursday - suggestion of Life Drawing at the Lamb Inn, Old Town Eastbourne, 8pm Art Show (If you do not wish to exhibit this year, please consider supporting the event with some help - see below) So far there are just a few people who have returned forms - this isn't much of a problem as we can just fill the space with our own work BUT we will most definitely need help with stewarding. If you do wish to exhibit, forms are online or you can fill one in at the art session this week. The DEADLINE is 1st JULY!! As an incentive to encourage people to do a little more stewarding, I am offering a 10% discount on exhibiting fees to anyone offering to steward for 3 or more sessions (not including the final session). If you do not wish to exhibit but can offer even just an hour of stewarding, please let me know asap! On our website are details of table top display stands that you might like to order to display your work. AAG members can order materials at SAA member prices if ordered through the AAG group account so please get in touch asap if you would like to place an order. If you want to order some of the more robust stands from Ken Bromley, let me know and we can combine orders to get a bulk discount. We are once again raising funds for the MS Society so ask for a donation of a prize (or a few!) for the tombola and / or a donation of a picture. The Art Show is part of Arlington Weekend which features Arlington Gets Cajun and other events in the field - see the Arlington Day website for details of events and to book tickets - hurry, they are selling fast. We will have a garden Sculpture Trail which features a brand new mural of Trees painted by Jill Church (with a little help from me - see work in progress picture), sculpture and art installations organised by Anna & Tom Acciarini, art work on show in my Open Studio, hands on events in the marquee at weekends, weekday Art Workshops on Observational Drawing in the mornings and Painting in the afternoons (book your place - see  https://artjosietipler.wordpress.com/2016/06/07/summer-art-workshops/), charity Book Sale, cakes and refreshments.  On Saturday 13th August the day will be dedicated to celebrating the launch of the programme for Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture - we will have live music, you can film for entries into the festival 3 Minute Wonder Film Competition, sit in the garden amongst the art installations and be inspired to write for the literary competitions, get your hands dirty with art activities in the marquee and find out all about what will be happening in the area in September for the 10th annual festival. Free entry, 10.30 am - 5pm daily.
