New Year News

Happy New Year to everyone!

We shall have our AGM in February - date to be advised.

ART & CRAFT SHOW
There will not be an Arlington Arts Festival in 2014 but we shall have an Art Show in the Village Hall on the weekend on 10th and 11th May and shall invite some traditional country craft makers to come along and demonstrate their crafts. Full details of how to take part in the Art Show will be on the website soon.

ART COMPETITION
Our annual Art Competition this year is on the theme of Farm Animals and judging will take place at the Arlington Bluebell Walk. Entries must be no larger than 5 x 7", we can accept either original artwork or photographs of the artwork but no entries will be returned. There are just 2 categories: Adults and Children under 16. The winner in each category will receive £25 cash.
Please send entries to the address below by 7th April with £1 fee per entry with your name, address, email and telephone number. The winning entries will feature in the 2015 AAG Calendar. Full terms and conditions on the website.

ART SESSIONS

Our first Art Session of 2014 will be on Thursday 9th January, 7-9pm at Arlington Village Hall and sessions will continue every Thursday throughout the year except for 20th Feb, 15th May, 17th July, 18th Sept, 20th Nov, 11th Dec. Fees are £5 per session (£2.50 AAG members, half price for children).

These Art Sessions are a chance to meet up with others and have some regular 'art' time. If you fancy trying out a new medium, the chances are someone in the group will be able to advise you. Likewise, if you are struggling with finishing a piece of artwork or are simply looking for inspiration, we are all keen to help. We are a small, informal, untutored and friendly group and there is no pressure to come along every week. Keep an eye on the websitefor details of our occasional artist's demonstrations and workshops.

We shall continue with our suggested weekly themes based on a famous artist  (please note, this is merely a suggestion and everyone is free to work on whatever they like ) which is a good opportunity to research a little more about the life and times of an artist, to look more closely at their work and to perhaps change your opinion about it!
January artists are listed below - please send us your suggestions for other artists for the rest of the year.

CALENDAR COMPETITION - This year we shall be printing a calendar in October so the monthly competition will be used to choose pictures to feature in the calendar. Bring along a finished painting/drawing on any subject on the last session of each month and we shall vote between us for the winning entry. Some months we shall need to choose 2 winning pieces.

Wild night

Joint winners in our Competition on 24th October were Brian Eley and Mary Lovell with their pictures inspired by the works of David Shepherd. Brian used acrylics for his excellent interpretation of the pride of lions and Mary's well observed study of the elephant was in graphite pencil. Congratulations to them both. We had some other excellent entries this week on all three themes: David Shepherd, Guiseppe Arcimboldo and Light and Dark.

Since its launch in 2000, The Big Draw has successfully supported the Campaign for Drawing’s aims by encouraging everyone to draw. Big Draw events highlight the power of drawing to help people see, think, invent and take action. The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing! Drawing helps us to understand the world, think, feel, shape and communicate ideas. It is fun, accessible and invaluable - in education and everyday life.(http://www.campaignfordrawing.org/bigdraw/)
