Message from the Chair
Hello
Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to those that took part in the Arlington Art Show last weekend and those that came along and helped. We were a select few but I had many compliments about the quality and high standard of work on show. Sales were good, over £400, and with well over 200 visitors we were kept busy with the tombola, selling raffle tickets and Jill did a great job with refreshments. It looks like we raised over £200 for the MS Society which will be added to the sum raised at the Arlington Gets Cajun event, at present £1500!
As usual, a few people do a lot of work so it is important to try to publicise the Art Group and encourage more people to get involved. Spread the word!
.......
Now, we have a committee meeting on 31st August to which ALL members are invited. There are 2 officer roles up for grabs: Secretary and Chair. Both are roles that can be very simple but are necessary under our group constitution.
I suggest we try to lighten the load and attempt a rota of duties to share amongst members, maybe on a monthly basis, such as sending out information and publicising meetings, checking hall hire, arranging weekly subjects, collating Third Thursday suggestions, unlocking/locking the hall, arranging monthly competitions and Artist of the Month, setting up refreshments.
We can also discuss options for the continued financial viability of the group such as making 'term times' and paying up front for blocks of sessions.
The meeting is at 6.30 at Pickhams, RSVP.
Kind regards
Josie

Registration is now open for the September Art Trail for Hailsham Festival of Arts and Culture. The trail has gone from strength to strength over the years and the Festival is now in it's 10th year. The APPLICATION FORM is on the festival website and assumes you have your own venue in or around Hailsham (the Trail stretches to Herstmonceux, Horam, Arlington and Wilmington) BUT, if you don't have a venue, get in touch and there may be a venue looking for an artist just like you! Registration deadline is 1st June so don't delay.
Chiddingly
We have been sent this email - if you are interested, please get in touch with Robin Symington for details.
We have our Spring Show next Saturday, March 19th., and the Show schedule is attached. Any/all of your members are most welcome to enter any class if they wish. All details are in the schedule, [not attached, ask Robin for a copy] the Show happens in our Chiddingly Village Hall.
For simplicity, people can email entry forms to me, see last few pages of the schedule, and pay entry fees on the day. Entrants will note that membership of Chiddingly Horticultural Society is a pre-requisite to entering the Show – membership is just £4.
I’m happy to answer any questions anyone emails me. But the answers to just about everything can be found somewhere in the schedule.

Well done!
Thank you all for the input for our AGM, a really positive meeting. There are exciting plans to be made, the most immediate change is that we will not be meeting at the hall on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The idea is to have an outing, or meet elsewhere so please let me have your ideas as soon as possible. A couple of suggestions to consider: Thursday 17th March, Botanic and Tribal art by Joy Adamson at Pashley Manor Gardens in Ticehurst, 5-8pm, £3 ; Thursday 21st April, Monk's House Twilight Tour, Rodmell, Lewes, 7-8.15, £15 advanced booking essential.
We also hope to start some Saturday afternoon workshops in Hailsham so watch this space!
In the meantime, please help to spread the word about the group.

Art Shows
Please could you have a look at the questions below and email me your answers or tell me at the next meeting.
We are committed to 2 art shows, one in Heathfield alongside the very popular Heffle Cuckoo Fair in April, one in Arlington in July alongside the Arlington weekend (live music, picnic). Both events were extremely well attended last year (see details of Heffle Just Art Exhibition 2015 )
You can view all of the points for discussion via this LINK or just answer these 3 questions:
- Are you willing to exhibit some of your art at one of these shows?
- Would you like to sell your work?
- Are you available on 16th April and / or 15/16/17th July?

February Dates
- Regular art sessions, 7pm at Arlington Village Hall on 4th, 11th and 18th.
- Demonstration/ Workshop on 25th Feb with Ben Ecclestone. 7pm: Wet pastel painting. £5 per person. If you have an Arlington Art Group loyalty card the cost is reduced to £2.50 if you have 4 points. Ben says "This includes print-offs from pastel to form colour beginings that people could develop later in full-blown paintings if they wished at a later time. For this folks need to bring some water colour paper with good cotton content ie Saunders Waterford NOT , preferably 90lbs or Bockingford NOT 90lbs. A variety of SOFT pastels ( not chalk or oil pastels), a small domestic plastic washing-up sponge, a water bowl large enough to wash-out the sponge, masking tape and a variety of sheets of paper for print-offs ( these can be whatever people have but for fun it would be good to bring along a variety of types and maybe colours). Some kitchen towels will be handy. Everyone would need to have some idea of a subject to work on and I suggest something not too complicated and with bold colours." Note: we have some chalk pastels in the art store but they are quite hard so bring your own if you have them
.......................................................................
March dates
- Regular art sessions, 7pm at Arlington Village Hall on 3rd, 10th alongside AGM, (not 17th), 31st. £5 / members £2.50

Note: We have a large selection of pen nibs and some pen holders, bamboo quills and quite a few bottles of inks thanks to Maureen.

I have just heard that the road through the village is closed but you can get to the hall via Tye Hill Lane, past Bates Green / the Bluebell walk.
Thursday, 7 January 2016
4pm today, Thurs 7th Jan, there are no floods on the road through Arlington village.
If it does rain heavily, be aware that water can accumulate on the sharp bends into and in the middle of the village, between Berwick and the village, at the junction of Bayleys Lane and Thornwell Road, on the Michelham Road and surface water can build up on Arlington Road West.
