Art History with Susanne Lawrence

7-9pm, Arlington Village Hall. Please book your place 01323 485153.
7-9pm, Arlington Village Hall. Please book your place 01323 485153.
Susanne will cover basic art history skills, skills that can enhance the viewing of art whether it it's architecture, sculpture, paintings, tapestry, costume, manuscripts, regardless of period or style or artist.
The audience learn about observation skills, why a work of art might look the way it does, and how what is not known about it when revealed can change opinion and viewpoints of it.
The seminars are practical with lots of audience participation. Skills being taught are practiced right then and there, until every one is happy with what they have learnt.
Susanne uses plain language and moves forward at the pace of the audience so that no one is left behind. The end goal is that anyone in the audience can use their new skills to enhance their enjoyment of art no matter the media or type.

All set for group presentations
We now have an Epson EB-X03 projector which is simple to connect to both a laptop & a camcorder for group presentations & art demonstrations.
It was very tricky trying to find the right combination but this seems to be just right for our needs. Having tried out the projector at home in a room with the light on, it should cope in the village hall even with a light on for the demonstrating artist. The camcorder image came up nice and sharp too. There is even a speaker in the projector which is perfect for audio visual presentations. Replacement bulbs are expensive but they should have a long life so we just need to be careful with handling and storage!
Next we need to fin a suitable small PA and clip microphone...

Events and News
NB: The railway level crossing on Thornwell Road at Wilmington will be closed from 11th to 13th and on 15th Feb so please avoid this route if you are coming to the art session this week.
Pam Robinson, a member of the group, has sent us an email about an exhibiting opportunity: we are holding our annual Cuckoo Fair in aid of Demelza Hospice Care for Children in Old Heathfield on April 18th. We usually have an art / photography exhibition in the Goward Hall, alongside the Fair and wondered if the Group would like to exhibit.
If you are interested, please email the group and I will pass it on to Pam.
There will be an art talk called Conflict and Creation - artists of the first world war, given by another group member, Andrew Forrest, in Eastbourne on Sunday 15th Feb - see the details below. Again, avoid travelling via Thornwell Road that day as the crossing will be closed. If anyone wants to car share, email the group.
This Saturday, 14th Feb, the latest exhibition, TEXTILES, at Gallery North opens at 12 noon - you are all welcome to pop in and join us for the opening.
