Thought Mondrian was just black lines with coloured squares?

Boccioni and Marc

Artists to look at this week:
Umberto Boccioni  - I particularly like the work form the 1910s, futurist style.
Franz Marc - again early 1900s work, German expressionist.

William de Wilde (Bill) talked about the history of seascapes in art, artists
around the south coast and  his own artistic career. He then brought a painting
to life before our eyes with some apparently simple steps and gave us
lots of hints and tips on using acrylic paints. Knickers and syringes
make surprising paint applicators!

NOTE: road closures

Access to Arlington Village hall from Hailsham direction will be a bit tricky for the next 5 weeks due to the road works on the A22. You can not get into Arlington Road West (past Arlington Stadium) from the A22 so you have 2 options:
head to the Boship roundabout  - come out of the top end of Hailsham if you can, save driving up the A22 where the roadworks are -  and take the A22 towards Golden Cross/Uckfield. The first road on your left will take you down through Upper Dicker. Turn left opposite  Bedes school and head past Michelham Priory, turn right towards Arlington and your back on track.
OR
head down to Polegate and come up the A27 towards Lewes, turn right at Wilmington into Thornwell Road. At the end of this road turn left and you're on track again - but you can't use this route after 8pm on 25.26.27th March due to closure of the A27 (!)
Now, there is also a road closure order in place for The Street in Arlington FROM 25th March, no details on this yet but be aware it might affect art group. I'll keep you posted.

David Hockney competition

Tonight's competition theme is "David Hockney". The video about his A Bigger Picture exhibition is on the RA website if you need a little inspiration.
You may start the piece in advance, but it should be completed at the art session. All works inspired by the artist David Hockney (his works, his life, his subjects or his portrait) will be judged by those at the session (all cast 3 votes) and the artist whose work gets the most votes, wins a prize.

Dog called David by Josie Tipler
The prize for tonight is a choice of a set of 12 Jaxon Aquarell pastels with a pair of Jaxhair brushes OR a set of 4 Black Faber-Castell Pitt artists pens
