Artistic Shop Window displays needed

Act before 31st July

The highly successful Art in Hailsham Empty Shops project is due for a changeover on 29th August. We will have a 3 week exhibition period, rather than the usual 8 weeks, to cover the Hailsham Arts Festival from 8-16th sept.

There is a special Art Trail leaflet being produced for the festival and we can name artists who will be showing work in the empty shops, although we can not say which shops are available until the last minute.

Paintings, sculpture, photography, crafts, fashion, prints - all kinds of visual art can be displayed. No prices can be shown but you can display your contact details or ask to be contacted via Gallery North or Arlington Arts Group. Full details on the AAG blog page here and here.

If you would like to participate and put a display in one of the available empty shop windows from 29th August until 19th Sept please get back to me in the next couple of days because the leaflet goes to print on 31st July.
Once available units are confirmed, I will get back in touch with those who want to display and arrange who will be showing work where. All I need for now is names.

The empty windows will provide an excellent opportunity to publicise the Hailsham Arts Festival so it would be great if you could draw or paint a poster/canvas/board advertising the festival. You can see the logo and more information about the festival programme on the website www.hailshamartsfestival.co.uk.

More Art blooms in Hailsham Empty Shops

A team of 9 gathered on Wednesday evening to clean up 4 of the empty shops in Hailsham High Street and to display works of art to tie in with the Hailsham in Bloom floral theme. 3 hours and several bin bags later, having been scrubbed, scraped, buffed, polished, swept and dusted, all 4 shops sported gleaming windows full of original art, some of it by first time exhibitors. The exhibition runs from Wed 28th June to Wed 29th August when there will be another changeover of art ready for the Hailsham Arts Festival (8th - 16th Sept).

Get creating!
We have the use of the Greengrocers inside the Quintins so we now need some bespoke pieces created to display as soon as possible - the frontage is made up of shutters of 28 windows which are 100cm wide by 25cm high and the work will need to be taped to the inside filling each window pane. If you are happy to create and *donate a suitable piece (*as it is being taped to the windows and the door is a shutter the work probably can not be removed without being damaged), please do let me know. The theme is Hailsham in Bloom so get creating!

Take part
If you would be interested in showing work in the future and/or  helping to clean up more of the empty sops in Hailsham, get in touch.

And the cleanup squad also included Cllr Steve McAuliffe of Hailsham Town Council who is working hard to gain access to all of the empty shops to get them cleaned up and in use. If you want to discuss a project with Steve  you can contact him via the Town Council website.

Countdown to Art & Craft Show - 12/13th May!!

We are all hoping that the sun will shine at the weekend but it won't make any difference to us at the art & craft show as everything is inside this year. Sadly our toy stall lady cannot make it as she has broken her hand (we wish her all the best for a speedy recovery) but there will be silver jewellery, pottery, beadwork, knitted goods, buttoncraft, needlecraft, embroidery, handmade cards and gift boxes, scarves, glasswork, photography, artist's cards, paintings, drawings, the Village Jubilee Quilt, refreshment and a  'have-a-go table' to paint a piece for our group Jubilee work of art.

Entrance is just £1 (under 16's free).
Free parking (there may some overflow parking in the field if we are busy so bring your wellies as the grass is long).
Open 10.30 - 5, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May. Arlington Village Hall (BN26 6RX).
Collection in aid of Chestnut Tree House.

While you are in the area, you might like to stroll round to visit St Pancras Church, or if you fancy a longer walk head round to Arlington Bluebell Walk which is still open as the bluebells are only just coming into full glory and you can vote for the winner in the Paint me a Bluebell competition while you are there (www.bluebellwalk.co.uk). We have 2 very good local pubs - the Yew Tree (almost next door to the Village Hall) and the Old Oak about 2 miles away.  Abbots Wood and Arlington Reservoir are also nearby.
